One thing is certain: climate and environmental protection represent some of the greatest challenges of our time. The energy technology, environmental technology as well as agriculture and forestry sectors are playing a key role in overcoming these challenges.
Energy and Environment
The protection of natural resources is a long-standing tradition in Bavaria. The state and the economy are therefore pulling together to make more sustainable use of raw materials, expand environmental technologies and preserve Bavaria’s biodiversity.
Energy Technology
The energy transformation will drastically change the energy supply in the coming years. Bavaria is well prepared for this shift.
After all, energy technology is not only a major focus of research and technology policy in the Free State, but it also encompasses all important renewable energy sources, including photovoltaic, wind energy, biomass, solar thermal and ambient heat, as well as geothermal energy for electricity and heat generation.
Our motto is “traditionally different”. Following this approach, Bavaria also supplies its citizens with hydropower, among other things – with the 800-year-old Augsburg water management system, which was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2019, the Free State is a true pioneer in this field.
In addition, regularly held congresses, forums, cluster meetings and dedicated platforms provide opportunities for regional, national and international knowledge and technology transfer between business and science. Is that exactly what you are looking for in your business event? Then head to Bavaria!
Environmental Technology
Efficient environmental technologies form the foundation for successful, resource-conserving business activities. For this reason, they play a key role in the question of how business and society must develop in order to be sustainable in the future.
With over 9,400 companies in the areas of waste management, soil remediation, water treatment, air pollution control and regenerative energy technologies, the environmental technology sector in Bavaria enjoys a first-class position.
Not only is it developing innovative products and processes for a greener future. It also generates approximately 50 billion euros per year, making it economically significant on a similar scale to the automotive and machinery industries.
In Bavaria, you can therefore count on exciting cooperations, insights and advanced training in the area of environmental technology.
Agriculture and Forestry
Bavaria, a leader in innovation, is also a woodland and agricultural state. Over a third of the state's land area is covered by forests, and the forestry, timber and paper industry ranks among the most important sectors in the state, with an annual turnover of 37 billion euros, 22,500 businesses and 196,000 employees.
Timber construction, furniture manufacturing, the sawmill industry, the wood energy sector and the pulp and paper industry are particularly strong contributors to the economic success of the sector.
By the way, timber is often shipped by water in Bavaria: the Bavarian port of Aschaffenburg is one of the most important transhipment points for the timber industry – 98,168 tonnes of timber were shipped from here in 2021.
In addition to the timber industry, agriculture, with over 100,000 successful farms, traditionally belongs to the most revenue-generating sectors in Bavaria. This makes Bavaria the ideal location for your industry event.
